Im here! Arrived-safe and sound! I am staying with a wonderful host family who has grapefruit, orange, mandarine and avocado trees in our backyard! (and a duck!) Actually we have 2 dogs, 11 chickens, 1 rooster, 1 duck and a pig all living in our back yard!
I have wonderful hot showers and great food! (including fresh squeezed grapefruit juice!) Its a bit chilly here now. Which I have heard will change all too quickly - but for now I am very happy I brought my down sleeping bag!
I love speaking spanish! The Guarani will take time (lots of time!) but is going well!
So far - so good! I dont have much time today! I will write more soon!

Woah! All that fresh fruit? AWESOME. I suppose ducks are pretty sweet too. Glad to hear everything is going so well! When you say "chilly" what exactly do you mean? 30s? 40s? -20s? Hopefully not that cold... Although your sub-zero sleeping bag would keep you toasty i'm sure. Super warm in Chicago today. Actually had to turn on the AC which is kind of a bummer. Just got back from shooting my friend's final project and thought i'd check in to see if you'd updated. Wonderful! You're a doll. Stay safe! And tell us more about your family and what you're doing in training! I'd love to read about that! LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh, grapefruit in your backyard, but your chilly. So its like Sarasota, FL in December with a duck and native Spanish speakers. Help me with this mental image here. You're my existential avatar.
Also, why is it that we have been in different countries for two years but now that your in Paraguay I'm all: I need to see Rachel Newby right. this. minute.?
Love,
Michelle
Also, I think I speak for all your fans when I ask: so is it three or four days on a donkey?
Hey, Rachel - happy arrival! I know that you will continue to love the chickens and the ducks. Mark tells me that you will get very used to the livestock noises and odors - and that a 3 (or 4) day donkey ride will provide a respite from the other odors!!
The only Guarani I know is "mitai," which means "little one," and was the name of my first car and now Jessie's cat. No doubt you will find the word very useful as well.
With a wish for minimal sweating,
Kate
